“Bakugan Battle Brawlers” is based on a wildly popular television show of the same name as well as a trading card game.

The game is about kids who collect cards and use them in tournaments. Some of the best are called “battle brawlers.”

Players place cards that contain magnets on a field. They then take turns rolling their “Bakugan” balls, trying to land on a card. Players try to steer their ball toward the appropriate card while their opponent takes pot shots to divert the ball in the opposite direction.

When an opponent’s ball is hit, both balls pop open, revealing the monsters inside. When two monsters land on the same card, their stats are compared and extra cards are played to enhance the powers of the monsters. The monster with the highest total wins.

As confusing as this sounds, this formula ends up translating really well in to the video game format. It is similar to the Pokemon phenomenon, where winning fights comes down to basic statistics.

It’s a game that requires skill, strategy and imagination, but is easy to learn and fun to play. It features a wide assortment of monsters, powers and environments.

WOW! what a disappointment that was! I got the Bakugan Bowl Arena for a Christmas present so we could play and it was the biggest let down of the Christmas presents. First, it is NOT a bowl, it is a FLAT cloth that you fold to fit into the holder bag. Then it has 4 plastic banking pieces that sit around the edge so you can practice tossing your rings into the playing area and let them bank off the curves. Yuck on that idea too.

I guess if you want to spend hours practicing that a player will eventually become good with this, but, overall, don’t waste your money on this one.  I will do a video and include it in my next post so you can see it first hand.

Now we can really play!

So we have been playing Bakugan for over a year now and I find that it is lots more fun to follow my 7 year old grandson’s rules than to try and figure out the real rules. (and believe me, I tried) When we sit down to do battle and because I am his grandmother, 9 times of out 10 he wins. He also likes to make up the rules as we go along. We will be playing on the arena and he is always telling me the rules in his own humble opinion. It is lots of fun for us!
Is it “fair” well, life is not fair is it?  Does it teach him social responsibility? Nope, but I am after all, his grandmother, and that is not my full time  job. Do we have fun?  Oh yeah, we have a blast playing modern day marbles with our Bakugan Toys.

So they have figured out a solution to the Bakugan Brawler Arena problems. I see that Amazon has a NEW Bakugan Battle Arena that is BOWL shaped. Yeah!! Now we can accomplish the trials of trying to bank our brawlers to get to the opponents card to do battle (unless that rule changes during our normal course of the game).

It is a BakuBowl which I think is going to be more fun than the flat arena.

At these prices it is the most affordable toy and lots of fun too. Ta-ta for now.
